You can't abolish a word - just persuade people not to use it.
You might be able to ban the use of it or make it illegal to say it but that doesn't stop people thinking it... and it's someone's attitude that really counts.

I just wonder what kind of people would want to even use the N word in the first place,I think it is ridiculous that there should be a need to abolish it, because any semi intelligent, well ajusted, person, with the slightest amount of integrity would never find the need to use that or any other racist or derrogitory term in the first place....no we will never stop people using it, but then you can't stop people from being ignorant or showing the world their unintelligence....

I saw the website. My thinking is that maybe if it is used not as an epithet but in some other way it is a possibility that the sting of the word could be lessened. We tend to give slurs too much power over us. If the word is meant to insult someone, and they've been insulted it has achieved it's intended use. I personally don't get offended by alot of things anymore. I guess it depends on what you think of the person who is trying to offend. If you don't know them or don't like them what does it matter what they say? I usually hold no regard for them or their opinions. It is hard to do sometimes, but ultimately if you always have a trigger for someone else to pull you will never win. You will constantly be irritated. That is no way to live.

You can't abolish a word.
I am white. I have never used that word in my life. I find it extremely offensive.
But you can't abolish a word. It's silly. Where would the enforcement be? Are cops really going to arrest people for being ignorant?

No. Free speech is a right and you would hope that people would use their discretion.
Blacks should be most outraged with their youth (and most rappers), who spew the "N-word" far more than participants at any crowded Klan meeting. Just ride the New York City subways when schools let out, and you will be shocked at what comes out of the mouths of young black kids. It is despicable and an insult to all those who carry themselves with some degree of dignity. I have seen numerous older black women chastise these disrespectful kids and it is a shame.

I "ofcourse" never use the word, but you can't just abolish the word. That means you would have to abolish every slur that is racial towards every race. I agree that it is horrible, but so is a lot of other stuff.

The only people who know how to use the word without getting in trouble now are black, so of course the government would try to make it illegal. Stupidest, most racist thing I've heard in a very long time.

That particular word is being used a lot in suburban Detroit, but instead of being used to describe a certain race of people it's being used to describe a certain attitude. The people who are being referred to by "the 'n' word" are usually suburban white kids who try to dress and talk like urban gangstas. Personally, I just call them stupid but the old racial epithet is being hurled quite a bit...better not say it around any African-Americans though.

The resolution was introduced by an African American legislator in NY. Nice thought but folks can say whatever they want. I do not agree with using the "n" word, nor do I agree if someone calls me a "honkey", "white bread", etc. The government should not be in the business of banning words.

A little late for that!
I don't use it but it should be a personal choice. Abolishing the "n" word by government decree would be such a hollow victory.
