well... to answer the second point.... 1) Inherently we are all sinful by nature we will fail and give in to temptation, and 2) yet have a will to do what we feel is best, and sometimes what we feel the bet thing to do is take the easy route (we give into the temptation to lie).... which would have us lie, so we can avoid conflict, or get away with something... but this is bad thinking because it is focused on the present and not the future, and most people will only handle the situation one lie at a time, and without premeditation, they will lose track of lies and become infused in a circle of lies, eventually trapping themselves... therefore we do it because we get caught in the circumstances and forget about morals, and consequences... and commite to a lie...
it is a spiritual and mental concept...
now compulsive liers, i turn to this guy(see source) and what he has to say....

"In most situations, we lie for one reason or another. It may be to get out of trouble, to gain an unfair advantage over somebody, to earn respect from others. Whatever the reason, good or bad, it can be justified. But what about compulsive lying? There are those who are compulsive liars, who are compelled to tell lies even when it would do them no good, or when the truth would serve them better. These are people who say they'd bought a certain item from Shop X when in fact they'd obtained them from Shop Y; people who would say that they had been to a certain place even when they have not. How does it profit these people to lie? Paul Ekman, a psychiatry professor from the University of California, San Francisco, attributes this to 'duping delight'. People who tell such lies do so not to get out of trouble, but for fun. For them, lying is like a drug that provides an adrenalin surge or a 'kick' sensation, and the feeling of being able to control the person they are lying to. However, there are individuals who seem to lie automatically without the intention to deceive. Jerald Jellison, a psychology professor at the University of Southern California, suggests that this may be due to momentum. A person who gets away with his first lie may be carried by the momentum of how easy it is to slip a lie past people. The second time around, it gets easier to repeat the lie with embellishments. The more you get away with it, the more you lie. And before you know it, lying has become second nature."

Most people lie to impress someone, or because they are imbarassed of the truth. Whenever I lie (not too often) it is because I don't want someone to know the truth, often because I don't want to get into trouble. Hope that helps!
