In the contract it states they can't be held responsible for things beyond their control. The Sky channels leaving virgin media, will free up space for other channels, and unlike the other answerer's here, I didn't watch the Sky channels much.
I think Sky did ask too much extra, a sky spokesman said they only wanted 3p extra per Virgin customer, but that is £99,000 a day extra, £36,135,000 a year extra.
It could have been possible to have a deal where it was bought only by those who wanted it, but that would clearly have been more than 3p a day.
They never put the price up when the occasional new channels were added, such as movies 24.
I don't blame Virgin for this position, it is clearly Sky's attempt to get more direct customers, after all they are removing their channels from Freeview as well.
I am happy to wait to see what Virgin replace the channels I rarely watched with.

i think it is good someone is at last standing up to sky. However you don't need to change just yet as we don't know if they will return or not. I rang virgin media and due to me being a loyal customer they gave me a £20 a month reduction making it alot cheaper than sky and with the hope they might still return the channels.
I also asked them what would happen if the channels did not come back. They said they would invest in more HD content and better channels. There is already news of a possible buena vista channel that will be in HD and has shows such as ALIAS and many others. Sounds similar to sky really.

I like others am disappointed at losing the non premium sky channels. However upon complaining to virgin and saying I wanted to cancel they have offered me a compensation package. This package upgrades me to full access of all channels offered by virgin and a talk unlimited phone for £16.05 less than what I was originally paying. Also I have noted that virgin are now accepting any customer cancellations regardless of how long you have been with them, whilst negotiations with Sky are not officially "dead" so we may get these channels back?

why doesnt Branson invest all his money to set up his own tv channel that way he could challange sky 1 and if it was good enough sky would have to show sky again on vm because it would be losing all the customers to Bransons new channel

I think it was ignorant of them to rid Sky from their channels without asking their customers...
I wouldn't pay.
Even though it would be logical because you would be paying for the last month of the Sky channels.

heard on radio today they not gone for good its just they arguing over something. its not fair no i angry anyway i pay by paypoint and yesterday found they had taken money out of my bank account (had to give details to start NTL up)as it was short i have now incurred a £25 bank charge they did not contact me at all so i think you should ask to have your last month free or you will take it to the press.

My reply to Virgin would be 'did they give you notice on the removal of items from the package' - if not - I would not pay.

Will you really miss Sky programs? In my experience, they are mainly wall to wall repeats and they have the cheek to charge AND show us adverts.
