Check local universities and/or your newspaper and look for writer's workshops. These events nearly always include representatives from publishing companies who can look at your work and point you in the direction you'd like to go. They will also tell you if your book is marketable (by their standards) and any changes they think need to be made to the story.

Or, you can publish it and sell it yourself. That means the outlay costs will be all out of your pocket, but the profits will all also go directly to you.

Check into "The Writer's Guide", a paperback book with guidelines regarding manuscript submission and styles that publishers want. Most local bookstores should have it. Good luck to ya!

A friend of mine's children's book was recently signed by Scholastic. She uses an professional online forum to communicate w/ other published authors and to discuss ideas, tips, etc. She talks about it constantly so I now its extremely helpful to her. I'm exactly not sure what the site is but I'm sure you can find it by searching online.

I think this may be the site:

Browse through it. hope this helps! =)
