basically just put your shooting hand a little underneath the ball and your other hand on the side of the ball as a guide then shoot the ball and follow through you want your arm and hand to look like a swan neck.

Well there are many different kinds of ways of shooting a basket. Here are some tips from my book:
1. Don't use your arms to shoot the basketball; use your legs to jump high and at the height of the jump, release with your arms.
2. The best way to hold the basketball is not with your hands together; if your thumbs are touching or any finger is touching the another finger that is the wrong way to hold it.
3. You DO NOT shoot from under your chin (in your neck area) at the height of your jump, you shoot over your head
4. if you are left handed, your right hand is your power and left is control. if you are right handed, that is vice versa.
5. Push the ball hard with your power arm if you are farther from the basket, and control your power if you are closer.
6. aim for the backboard, about 90% of shots always go in. (the square above the rim)
7. Always pass to an open person. you do not need to bring the ball all the way in to the basket to be a good player; passing to other team members means you are a good player.
8. when guarding a person, always stay low and focus on the ball and the person's footwork. keep your hands out sideways so she/he has nowhere to go. if he/she tries a shot, step in front, and hold up your hands high close to their head and the ball; this will throw the shooter off guard, or will block the shot completely. if he/she gets past you, that is ok. you do not need to block every shot to be a good player.

shooting---If you're a righty, hold the ball in your right hand (underneath it) and make an L with your right arm--hold it up at a 90 degree angle with your hand supporting the ball. When you shoot, snap your wrist and "follow through" (that is, keep your writst bent over after you make the shot). The ball should spin towards you as it's going through the air. Use your other hand to guide the ball, but I wouldn't try and shoot with both hands because it tends to make it spin kind of weird. If you're a lefty, do the opposite--make the L with your left arm and use your right fingers to guide. Shoot with your fingertips, not your palm.
Foul shots-- Line up your feet shoulder width apart and knees bent, with one foot slightly in front of the other
Aim for directly above the hoop in an arc-like motion, don't throw the ball at the basket.
There are tons of tips that you can probably find online, these are the main shooting tips though. Good luck and have fun =]

Good for you.
Balance the ball on your left or right hand. Aim for the BACK of the rim and flip your hand down. Your ring finger (or "the finger") should be lower than the other fingers after the shot. Most of the power should come from your wrist and hand NOT your arm. Using your arm worsens your aim and makes you bounce the ball off the backboard too hard. Keep practicing. Start close, then move back a step.
Good luck

Here are a few tips I just found:
FEET
- Your feet are shoulder width apart.
- Your lead foot (right foot for right handed shooters)is slightly forward and pointing towards the iiibasket.
- Knees bent and balanced, leaning slightly forward on the balls of your feet.
- Come in Low and use your legs to increase the range of your shot.
Remember...LOW TO HIGH on your shot!!!
SHOOTING ARM AND HAND
- Show the palm of your hand as your target.
- Spread your fingers wide to allow a comfortable grip on the ball. The palm does not touch the ball.
- Form the letter T with your thumbs.
- The shooting arm should form the letter “L” above the lead foot.
- Cock the wrist until skin wrinkles.
- On your follow through, your elbow is above your eyes.
GUIDE HAND
- Positioned on side of ball to hold the ball in place on your shooting hand.
- Guide hand does not shoot the ball. The fingers should point straight up after the shot.
- Do not twist, turn or drop your guide hand.
HEAD
- The head remains still, leaning slightly forward and in front of your shoulders.
- Keep your eyes on the target.

well one thing i ws taught is thatif youre just going to be shooting around try aiming for the back of the basket if you miss and hit the front of the rim, it means you werent concentrating if you shoot and miss but hit the back thats fine, when warming up try to shoot up close to the basket and then go further out, as far as where your hands should be i place my hands (im right handed) with my right hand in the middle spot and and left on the side of the ball, i've seen girls shoot the ball with two hands under the ball and maybe that works, but important thing is find your own style and you will do fine

Have fun. That's all you need to do, however, if you want some good tips and strategy, go and watch older people play, whether at a local gym, after school , at the school, or a near-by park. Some of the best player's play basketball at these places on a weekend. Ask them some of your questions, and I am sure they would be flattered, and love to help you learn. Hands on training is the best way to learn! Have fun!

honey, what you have to do is set the ball on the ground, then lay on top of the ball, now with ease lift up the center part of your body, and drop it on the ball. Do this repeatedly at a very fast rate of speed and that's how you make a basket

depends which hand is your dominant hand
1]put your dominant hand under the ball at 90 degrees
2]put the non-dominant hand on the side the hand is on
3]hold the ball so your dominant wrist is in front of your face
4]visualize that you're holding the rim with the wrist
5] push the arm forward-upward and flick the wrist(while doing this push the ball
6]follow through

haha you def sound like a girl who goes to my school.. im 12 too but play competive bball.. its really fun! you should go to rec bball and if you really like it get better and try out for a team.
the way i was taught to shoot is shooting with one hand.. and the other as a guide. your shoulder && elbow should be straight. hard to explain online but mostly use your legs and your hands as guides.
