I was told today that if; I have not setup direct deposit by April 1, 2007 I would be terminated.

Most states are employment at will, meaning you can be fired without cause, for any reason. I would suggest signing up.

If you have any ethnic or other reason to suggest they are decriminating then get a lawyer ( don't pay them since a good lawyer will jump at the chance to represent you for a piece of the lawsuit) If you don't have any of those characteristics then try your best to get the reason in writing and collect unemployment. What they are doing is NOT legal but if no opportunity for decrimination lawsuit then you really don't have a lot you can do other than choose between doing as they say or trying to make them pay unemployment. Unfortunately that is the way the system works. Just because an employer does something illegal does not mean there is much recourse. Kind of like getting a parking ticket, it is illegal, but not really a big deal unless you get a lot of them.

Wow that is uncommon but not unheard of I suppose it is because they are getting rid of the longer process of having someone at the office do it because it takes to much time and if it is a big company it could save them a lot of money to go with the direct deposit. It's really easy to set up an account and if you use a debit or credit card than you will actually your money faster and look at it this way one less stop for you to make.

Your company has full rights to ask you to adhere to company policy, and if that is the policy then yes they can terminate you.

I think a company can set any rules they wish, and it is considered insubordination not to comply...if you were "warned" then, yes, they can fire you....especially if it is a written company policy...
