i suppose you could call it recent as card is still writing books (the last one is expected out pretty soon) even though they first started coming out a WHILE ago,

ender's game and the rest of the ender books, especially

ender's shadow and the shadow series

ender's game and the shadow series are the only scifi books i've been able to get into

I just reread my copies of the Known Space storyline from Larry Niven. The books aren't recent, but the stories are all pretty good.

The most recent SF stuff I read was all by Peter F. Hamilton (I'm a bit out of touch...). The Greg Mandel books are all good, and the Night's Dawn trilogy are excellent, if you like doorstop SF novels (the Yanks got the trilogy published in six volumes, which says something about the attention span on the far side of the Atlantic, I think)!

For a gentler intro to the same storyverse, try his book of short stories, 'A Second Chance at Eden'

i'm additionally prepared on megastar Wars and megastar Trek to boot, and yet another e book i particularly enjoyed replace into Hidden Empire by Kevin J Anderson. it particularly is slightly stressful to stick to the 1st financial disaster, yet save analyzing and the story will unfold, and alter into much less confusing to stick to and extra exciting to boot. BTW, the prequel for the e book is Veiled Alliances, in a image novel format, so in case you prefer to get a gist of the storyline first yet do not prefer to envision books, you are able to take a glance at that. i'm hoping this helps. and additionally there is an entire number of books from the megastar wars enlargement universe. in case you like it yet do not prefer to envision an analogous storyline repeatedly, you may supply those a go. I reccomend New jedi order.
