This is an issue about which most men have strong opinions, either for or against. There seem to be few men who are undecided about whether or not is is proper to let their sons look at their naked bodies. On the other hand, there is a near-universal need, or at least curiosity, on the part of sons to see their fathers naked and specifically to look at his penis. The questions are: "What is wrong with a boy wanting to see his father's penis?" and "Why would a father object to his son seeing his penis?"

some fallacious idea that by pandering to a son's desire to see his father's manhood (in servicing that curiosity) the boy will turn out to be gay. Added to this there is the near puritanical morality about nudity, in general.
Combine the two and I think there's at least a part of your answer.
EDIT (following your e-mail): I'm for boys seeing their fathers in the nude. It should be done sensitively and from an educational viewpoint. We have too many taboos in our society, nudity and sex being two of them.
Why did our forbears start wearing furs? To keep warm. This figleaf nonsense on modesty is a red herring. We should not be ashamed of our bodies...
There is enough sex and sexuality displayed in media and advertising that children will develop a mythos about what sex and gender is. Most of us are guilty of observing the taboo. If one looks to the Dutch they are much more open about it and, (one could argue) as a consequence, have lower rates of rape, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, STDs, eating disorders,...
If people were to hold an open and healthy view about their bodies - and instill the same in their children, kids might have fewer problems in their development.

If parents don't make a big deal about family nudity they kids wont' either, just make sure he understands that itis not polite to stare at anothers naked body and that more modesty is called for outside the family.

My opinion is that if you see nudity like something natural and you feel comfortable being nude in presence of other people, it's perfectly right going naked in front of your kids.
That will help them to know better their bodies and assume their own nudity as something natural.
I think family nudity is a healthy practice.

I go nude in my house all the time.It does not bother me norany of my family,we're nudist so we go nude all the time.
