I think it's trashy! "The Departed" which won Best Picture at the Oscars the other night had the "f" word in it at least 200 times, plus another hundred uses of other cuss words!! This is so not artistic or "realistic" for the average American. I find it both disgusting and debasing!! I can't believe people get paid to act so crude and rude. It shouldn't be rewarded!! It takes no talent to act a fool! When will Hollywood clean up it's act? Do you agree or disagree?

I agree there is way too much garbage in the movies.
You can't even take children to a pg movie without cursing
God's name in vain.Problem is that is what alot of people
call entertainment today. If everyone would stop watching
these movies. Then Hollywood would have to clean up their act.

I've never seen "The Departed", but I TOTALLY agree that swearing, adultery, murder, etc. is very undesirable in a movie! It raises our children in a society where such behavior is accepted and practiced without shame. Shame on Hollywood. It isn't real life, after all. And what's worse than people getting paid to make those movies are the people who pay money to go see those movies! Disgusting...

Well if all you see is the swearing, rage, adultery, murder, and thievery..then of course that in itself is trashy..same thing with tons of singing and dancing..i find that trashy as welll..but it all depends they are different aspects of a movie that add to the plot overall. Yes The departed (watch it last night) was quite wild with its twists and turns, and violence..but overall I liked it. I enjoy disney movies as well.I like variety..if you want to live in happy non-violent land..go to disneyland and stay there.

The Departed was engineered to win an Academy award. Whilst swearing may at minimal times be inproper Hollywood must represent reality and I have yet too know a lifestyle without swearing

I personally swear like a sailor, but I think there's a limit that movies and cable shows have where it just becomes tedious.

For example, Deadwood, love the show. There was one point in the series where the hooker girl was talking to the prospector/new husband about marrying the widow. Her swearing just seemed so forced. I realized that maybe the pivotal "dirty" characters, like Swearingen, could do to use foul language, but EVERY character didn't have to.

Some is ok, but alot of the violence and trash talk is too much in movies directed for younger audiences (american pie type movies)
I think it's terrible when they have little kids cursing or saying suggestive remarks (like in Will Ferrell's Talledega Nights)
All in all, it just sets a bad example for a highly vulnerable audience

Mostly unnecessary.

Haven't seen the Departed yet. It's sitting here waiting to be watched. However, did you enjoy the movie between counting the number of 'f' words ? I tried that once & missed the entire movie plot !

I think the Departed had a ton of swearing. I'm on the fence on the whole cursing, adultery murder, etc thing. In some movies it is used in context but others they just curse/get naked/etc just for the hell of it!

well they use these words to exagerate and emphasize sth...i find it very disturbing and unnecessary...if they can´t find another way let´s just face it they´re bunch of losers....the departed is overrated and i don´t think i could be happy if i won oscar just because somebody thought it´s time no matter what´s the movie like....i hate when they´re paying somebody back like they did with peter jackson for LOTR 3...they can call themselves academics but we all know what it´s all about, right?

Yes, I totally agree. It's so bad, that it shows up on regular TV, as well. On today's Bold & Beautiful, they used the SOB word, then when a child uses these words, they want to blame parents first.
