You don't ever have to sign a lease, but the landlord doesn't have to rent to you either. The original owner of your building is mistaken. The new owner bought property encumbered by a lease and is required to honor that document. If the old owner didn't notify the new owner then the old owner may be liable to the new owner for any lost revenues which were not disclosed. In the absence of a lease, either party may terminate the rental arrangement with 30 days written notification. That is why the landlord almost allways wants the tenant to sign.

well,
in the US the landlord has to honor the lease from the pervicious owner. The new landlord can tell you to move out because you have no lease to protect you. if you were in the US you could move anytime. You have no lease!
I would consult the new owner and a realtor.
Did you get your deposit back from the pervious landlord?

Not sure I understand your question. Whenever you live anywhere it is always a very good idea to sign a lease; by sighing a lease it represents, what the tenant and the landlord agreed upon.
