If you are face to face watch their eyes. They cannot make eye contact well and most will look down and left when they lie, as if they are looking for an answer.

Usually an unpractised liar will look up and right to search for an imaginative lie. A fact however, a person looks left to search the logic side of their brain. Sadly unless you know every nuance of a career liar then its hard to tell. Anything from diverting the eyes away, speech changes, fidgety, stares intensely, etc, etc Being I've meet my fair share the body language and eyes are the dead give aways.

I look directly into their eyes, the mirror of the soul. Most people are not hard core enough to make eye contact when lying. Some are but with proper training you can spot them also. Some times just ask if they are lying or are serious and make eye contact. Also asking for proof in certain cases helps. Everyone lies and many will stretch the truth. Never assume especially if the lie will affect you, them, or someone else negativly. Remember that there are also lies of ommissin and comission.

I agree with NakasEvil. When my ex broke up with me all she could do was nothing BUT LIE. and coming from someone who was going to be 37. How childish! and she was just looking around and to the left trying to find answers. She just through a whole bunch of lies and accusations just to get out. That mean witch!
