Why do Republicans discrimate against African Americans?

Not to give too much support to Republicans (I'm a Democrat), but that's not really true. In fact, there were more segregationists who were Democrat than Republican back in the 60s. You brought up Strom Thurmond, but you forget that he was a Democrat until 1964. Southern Democrats voted very differently from Northern Democrats. Have done so since the civil war.

Now if you asked the question why doesn't today's Republican leadership do more for the black vote, then you really have a good question.

The answer to the question is still pretty simple, however... Blacks almost never vote Republican. Therefore, the Republican leaders don't actively go after the black vote. It's a vicious cycle.

It's slowly changing as blacks become more affluent and the issues they care about change. You vote with your pocketbook, and in general, the better off you are, the more likely you are to vote Republican.

At least in the days before GW Bush, who is not a traditional conservative. The Christian Right (like Jess Helms) are not typical Republicans either. They are a minority group in the party that recently have had a disproportionate amount of power (in part because of GW's coattails). Until recently, they were in the fringes of the party (and probably will be back there real soon).

It's just been a case of the leadership falling out of step with the masses of the party. Either way, I'm so glad that the Dems kicked them out. The Republican Congress had no backbone, and just did what GW wanted, pushing the party further into the hands of the uber-Christian wack-jobs. Change is good.

Wow, why do you discriminate republicans? Maybe you should read through some of these answers very closely and reflect on your own severe stereotyping problem. Then actually research the situation so you may be able to make a sound claim.

Racism runs in the blood of everyone, some culture themselves and don't act on it and some let it take control. Their party affiliation has no party in that decision. Im republican and see blacks as equal.

Please look up "generalization" in the dictionary. Read it. Then realize what an uninformed question this is. Bush has had more African Americans in his cabonet than Clinton did! Thats a fact, jack! By the way, how about loooking at your own Dem Senator Robert Byrd, former member of the KKK?!!!

Since we do this so often, you should be able to list out a whole bunch of examples.

You might do well to realize that Republicans, especially in the Bush cabinet, have done more to promote African Americans than any Democratic administration. Condoleeza Rice and president of Black America's PAC Alvin Williams come to mind. Here's a quote from Alvin Williams:

"Under the Bush administration African-American business owners have benefitted from the repeal of the estate tax, the bush tax cuts, and an additional infusion of resources aimed towards funding entrepreneurial endeavors," Williams said. "In the area of home ownership, the administration has been working vigorously towards their goal of increasing minority home ownership which has led to African-Americans figuring prominently among the over two million new minority homeowners since 2003."

Detractors who refer to budget cuts for certain programs don't seem to realize that these budget cuts affect both black and white equally, across the board. I'm a white single parent of a disabled daughter, and I am affected by some of these cuts myself.

Are there some skunks in the Republican party? You bet! I'm one of those ready with tomatoes to neutralize the stink from those rascals as they're chased out of office. But as a party, do you truly see discrimination against African Americans?

You might want to ask yourself exactly what African Americans actually want. Do they want equality and opportunity, or special consideration.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads throwing that all away. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18? And, how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

They're walking around with their nasty underwear showing, and holding onto their pants to keep them from falling to the ground!

Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up to her panty line, and got all types of needle piercings going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from?

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa.

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that cr@p, and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs.

We as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids saying...you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard. We cannot blame the white people any longer.

It is not for media or anyone of this time anymore to say whether I'm right or wrong. It is time, ladies and gentlemen, to look at the numbers.

Fifty percent of our children are dropping out of high school. Sixty percent of the incarcerated males happen to be illiterate. There's a correlation.

Tell the media to stop asking me what I think about people who don't believe what I'm saying or feel that I'm too harsh or feel that I'm just running my mouth because I'm old.

Seventy percent of the teenagers pregnant happen to be African American girls.

Don't ask me to soften my message.
