why do women have lower standards for cops?

There are women who certainly can meet the physical demands of being police officer, and I know some excelent women police officers.

But there are too many women cops. Why? Because they have to meet much less stringent physical demands than men. For instance, when I took the CPD test, women only had to bench 40% of their body weight, while men had to bench 60% of their body weight. Men had to run the mile in one less minute than women.

There should be women cops. Even hypothetically, if no women was as strong as a guy (which is obviously false), you need women cops who can deal better with women criminals and women victims.

However, biology dictates that men will always be generally stronger than women. And since physical strength is a part of being a cop, there should be more guy cops than women cops.

We cannot allow women to have easier standards simply so there are equal number of men and women cops.

Most major police departments, highway patrol and sheriff's offices have either lower standards for women or lower standards overall to allow the less than capable to succeed.

I was a police office many years ago and there were no females except one very butch HP trooper who looked, and acted much like a gorilla and seemed to have the same mental capacity. Since then, I have reviewed the physical test of the local department, which I could easily perform today in my 60's but I sure couldn't go through some of the situations I did back then.

I hate to say it, but a police officer is not a job for women. I have seen or heard of many instances of where a woman could not successfully control a male, or where a woman was beaten senseless by a male suspect. The truth is, most criminals are male, and if a male suspect attacks a female officer, the male will most likely win, even if the officer has a weapon.

I saw this one female cop physically take down this one dude who was twice her size on "COPS" one time. Yeah men are just generally stronger than women. However I think true strength comes from the inside not out.

What I find more ridiculous is your made up statistics which you never back up with anything factual. These are simply your opinions of the world as bent as they may be and for someone to say they simply are not true would never be something that you would listen to or hear anyway. You view of discrimination is seen from only one perspective and that is your narrow minded one. As part of the dominant group, white males, any person who tries to infringe on your territory is being unfair. This is called the defense mechanisms of projection, rationalization and denial. Such ignorance. Because men are naturally built to be stronger/faster than women, as you so correctly pointed out, a man who can bench 60% of their weight is considered to be as fit/healthy as a woman who can lift 40% of her weight. A woman may who can run a mile in 5 minutes is considered to be as fit/healthy/fast as a man who can do it in 4. If the woman can run it in 4 also, she is proportionally MORE FIT than the man.

It's about appropriate requirements for the physical composition/gender of the person applying. It's not about quotas, or conspiracies, or feminism.

Because they have to fill quotas. If of the few women that apply even fewer women pass the test and the quotas of female police officers stay low the feminists are going to scream sexism.

But is physical strength REALLY that important when it comes to being a cop? Are you a cop now? I mean, I really want to know...cops have tasers, clubs, and GUNS so that they don't have to get too physical with the "perps", although, of course I know that there will be times when physical strength is important. However, it seems like being intelligent, adaptive, and insightful would be the most important qualities to a police officer. And what about the male cops who "let themselves go"--with their "beer guts"...the female cop who stays in shape will be able to outrun him, easily. So, should there be restrictions on men, should they "stay in shape" in order to be better cops? And what about "aging" cops? It's only fair to restrict the number of women cops if you are also going to restrict the number of overwieght, aging male cops.

I have to disagree with Wendy G; there are several cases where female officers have been escort sexual predators, and killed because the man was able to overpower them. All the tools in the world will not save you when they surprise you. Now, do you think this would have happened if the same sexual predator was being escorted by a 200lb 6'2" officer? (male or female)
