In just about all commercials, except for the AutoZone commercials, for the past several years straight, all I've ever seen is that when the guy is in a commercial, they make him look like a dope, and when the woman is in a commercial, they make her look smart and brisk. Why is this? Not ALL guys are dopes and not ALL women are smart and brisk like in that Mr. Clean, Swifer dust mop, and Plug it in Plug it in commercials. There are guys that are as smart and clever like the women in the commercials.

I agree with the answers already posted, but have something further to add. As unfair as it is, Mr. Clean, Swiffer, etc. etc. are marketed towards women. The reason is because "women do all the housework". I'm not agreeing with that philosophy, but unfortunately that's what the target demographic is. So while the housewife is watching Days Of Our Lives, she can see a Swiffer commercial or whatever else that pokes fun at men, and she can identify with the idea that yes, her husband is a dork. Or yes, her husband is clueless when it comes to such and such task. Or whatever the case may be. So that gets her interested in the product. Unfair? Definitely. Does it sell products? Most likely.

I Agree. But understand those are big corporations, they think about what appeals to society as a whole, not specifically or individually. & society is interested in women. Well its always been even before women's rights.Women have always been associated with sexuallity, beauty & fertillity(life). So basically, the commercials imply the empowerment of women. Also those commercials are for household products, which the women are "the head of", even if a couple shares that responsability or even if the man is the head, like I said up there, the thought is general not specific. Please dont see it as a bad thing & dont let it bother u! We are not looking to replace men & we are not saying we are better than men, we just want to be looked at as equals ( All Human Beings should be seen as & treated as equals regardless) Technically all we need men for is procreation, but you are worth sooooo much more to us than that!!!!!!

I think it's a womens lib thing. I guess women want to be treated equally with men, and the stereotype Leave It To Beaver, where the man was the ruler of the house is gone. I don't think it's right either, I think it's stupid. It happens in alot of tv shows as well, like Everybody Loves Raymond, Deborah is always being the head of the household role. Men are smart and clever. Honestly, they are the better of the two.

It's commonly thought among advertisers that women make 70% (give or take) of ALL purchases. Whether or not this is true, if that's what they believe then it makes sense to kiss up to the female ego by making the she in commercials look smarter than the he.

And speaking as a guy, let's face it: we're a bunch of dofusses!

I agree, and I don't know why. I don't like dopey men. (Funny, yes.)

Perhaps it's the same as the issue with school-age boys and girls. The boy screams or speaks out, he's in trouble. The girl screams or speaks out, the teachers laugh and act like it's cute. (Mom of a 12-year old son.)
