I personally think they are good enough to win the division. The one thing they have to do is unload Prior and Wood. These two have cost the franchise a bloody fortune and have not come close to being worth the investment. Lee will be back and for the first time in a long time they have a lot of punch in their lineup.

Well, being from Chicago, the Cubs will have to win at least the NLCS before they are anywhere close to being compared to the Yankees. The Yankees may have a huge payroll like the Cubs, but they have the World Series titles to back that up.
Cubs are consistently expected to do well coming into a season, so we'll see how they do. If their pitching (I'm talking to you, Mark Prior) can stay healthy and Soriano works out, they have a good shot of making the playoffs despite the tough division.
I still have my eye on the White Sox here though. :-)

not really. while I really cannot stand the yankees and what they do, you cannot deny that they put together winning teams time and time again. They get to the post season a lot and win a lot. Cubs not so much.
Let's Recap:
Yankees:
WS - 26 wins in 39 appearances (translated, since 1903 they go to WS every 2.7 years and win every 4.)
Cubs
2 world series appearances and are 0 - 2 in that category
They have only made it to the posteason 49 times and lost 29 of those efforts.
they only thing that the yankees and cubs have in common is money and the willingness to spend obscene amounts on players. Which may or may not guarantee sucess.

I wouldn’t say the New York Yankees they always seem to have results. I would say they are more like the Boston Red Sox, spend excessively to much money on nothing and then complain when they don’t win. The Yankees have actually won titles and divisions where as the Cubs and Red Sox have 1 title between them in the last 70 years.

No - the Yankees actually win with all the money they spend. The Cubs have an impressive tendency to waste huge quantities of cash and still lose.

i don't really think they are going to be good enough to justify the money they spent.
but they will be more exciting for cubs fans to watch, and they will be better than last year.

I don't think they are. They have the potential to be as good as the money they spent.
