These are awfully metal-heavy and rather modern "classic" suggestions.
I'd suggest the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Clash, Queen, the Police, the Doors, Cream, Bowie, Bob Dylan, the Pretenders, maybe some Bad Company or Three Dog Night, and the Velvet Underground. That's just off the top of my head. There are a lot of directions you can go within "Classic," but that's trying to sort of cover them all.
