my above motor home emits black smoke from exhaust and is painfully slow,has had full service with shell semi synthetic oil,diesel fuel conditioner engine flush.it starts first time and idles ok.has large camper van body so not expecting great acceleration,but black smoke is worrying.
any help?.

Next time you fill up, add some injector cleaner, it may help. If it does use it every 3 or 4 fill ups.

if this is the 600 series engine either 4 or 5 cylinder check valve clearances peform compression and cylinder leakage test to eliminate loss of compression and or head gasket causing loss of power. have injectors tested and reconditioned if necessary. be sure to change flash washers under injectors.

Check valve timing. Timing chains can stretch.
Possible head gasket problem.
Check injection pump timing.
