Do I need McAffee or Norton anti-virus software or is Yahoo! online protection adequate?

I don't think the Yahoo protection is very good...it will get some things, but it's not as thorough as most software. All of the following programs are completely free:

Spyware Tools:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsdefender

Anti-Virus:

The Yahoo online Protection is adequate for most situations, it's AntiVirus is licensed from Computer Associates (CA), that has a good track record. The Anti-Spy is also fair, but I also run SpyBot S&D with it (free program!), it also recommends two free complementary programs to run with it (Spyware Blaster and SpywareGuard).
If you are looking for "free", this would be a good choice, or use the Microsoft Windows Defender (now part of Vista, free download for XP).
I actually dumped the paid Norton and only use the Yahoo, and have not had ANY issues.

I guess you would have buy something else. Norton and McAffee are fine, U could give it a try. I suggest that you buy these products rather than to download those anti-virus programmes online free. They may give you a virus instead, and what's up with spending arounf 1 hundred bucks to protect your computer which costs a few thousand dollars? I'm using a notebook, it costs around $1,700, it isn't really the kind of top-notch notebook, but I cherish it very much.

its not solely by yahoo, its a shared agreement..

if you are going to get their package you will get a norton AV
by that, i can say you wil be havng a good AV on your PC..

the catch? you have to get the IE7 for them or to have a genuine windows installed first.. if you do have that.. go ahead try it..

give it a month to work with your machine then if you dont like, you can uninstall them..
