They are fine. They wouldn't give it to you otherwise. I was given vicodin for kidney stones during pregnancy with my twins. I was also given vicodin while nursing. I voiced my concerns to not one, but TWO ob/gyns and they both said it was ok. Don't worry. If you are, call and speak to your doc but they DO know more than the people here on yahoo answers who think they know everything. Calm yourself, you aren't hurting your baby. Best of luck to youl.

Tylenol #3 is also a narcotic (codeine), and NO the bad tooth is much more dangerous than the pain medicine. There are at least 4 categories of medications for pregnant women - safe with no known side-affects (like plain Tylenol), low risk of side-affects, unknown if safe with pregnancy and definite side-affects.
Both of those medicines have been determined safe with pregnancy. If you have ANY concerns, call your doctor and have him/her explain it to you. That is what they are there for.
An infection can cause much more harm to your baby than the pain medicine. The pain medicine, when taken as directed, will focus on your pain. Yes the baby will get some, but if you have a way to go it will be out of their system the same time it's out of your system about 6 hours after the last dose. An infection can take hold in the womb and keep going after delivery.
Also, I get migraine headaches and have 2 medications for them. There were in the low risk of side-affects category, but my doctor told me the stresses from pain would be worse than the medication. I only took them when I really needed to and I now have 3 healthy, smart, wonderful kids.
No Tylenol #3 and Vicodin are not given as freely to pregnancy women. You will have to decide how bad the pain is and if regular Tylenol will be enough for you.
Take care - you'll do great!

Use during pregnancy and lactation
The Food and Drug Administration has put Vicodin in category C. This category includes any and all drugs which have not been tested in pregnancies therefore the effects of the drug on newborns have not been determined. The FDA does ensure a warning to breastfeeding mothers telling them that Vicodin does pass into breast milk, which can have adverse effects on nursing babies.

I would call your OB/GYN just to make sure, but my OB Dr. prescribed vicodin to me because I have a pregnancy related hernia that dishes out unbearable pain sometimes. I cut one of them up and only take half when it's too much to handle but try as hard as I can to stay away from it. Also - when I had my wisdom teeth removed I just took Tylenol anyway because it worked, so maybe that will be the same case for you!

Yikes. Both tylenol 3 and vicodin are really strong drugs! I was told by my doctor that I shouldn't get my wisdom teeth out while I'm pregnant (I have all 4 that have grown in now and they can get pretty painful). I was told not to go because she said that none of the drugs are safe to take when you are pregnant.
I would talk to your doctor.
Good luck!

You should talk to your doctor. They would know what will & won't affect the baby. As for the coodenator it sounds like she really doesn't know what she talking about. You should get a second opinon on anything that she has told you about the baby. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a baby. Don't take any unnecesary chances.

I would say definately NO to the Vicodin
The Tylenol 3, however, would not be as bad... obviously if you're gonna go and get hooked on it, that's not good. But for pain management, one or two a day for a couple of days is not going to hurt anything I wouldn't think... my mother had to take strong migraine medicine when she was pregnant with me that wouldn't normally be recommended, but were necessary for her - I imagine when you go ask your Dr. about that, that's what he/she will say. But definately ask.

You are correct. Vicodin is a narcotic and should not be taken if you are pregnant or nursing. Stick with over-the-counter Tylenol; do not take the Tylenol#3 either.

depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy depends on how much damage it will do to the babies brain. Your obgyn is getting paid major bucks so just pick up the phone and let them answer the question over the phone for you. you wouldn't be taking it for more than 2 days probably anyway.
