It's so sad to think that Marilyn Monroe, once THE sex symbol for femininity is now considered "plus size."
This new wave of thin models and celebrities is awful. What's more awful is that it influences normal women everywhere and gives them the impression that they aren't thin.
I partially blame fashion designers. There was an interview with in particular (I think it was Nicole Miller, but don't hold me to that), and she said that she much prefers designing clothes for thin women because it's easier and makes the designs look better. I mean, God forbid any of them design for the average woman. The designer that said that was also stick thin.
I'm even noticing that my size is shrinking in stores. I'm a size 6/8 and lately I've been having a harder time fitting into jeans this size at places like Old Navy. However, if I go to a place like NY & Company, I'm a perfect size 6.
It's very sad, and I hope something is done about this very soon.

The nature of this business- if you are not stick thin, you will get very few role offers. Some of the celebrities look like they are on a brink of becoming seriously sick. I think they should relax a bit and eat like real people. Did anyone ever notice that whenever they interview a celebrity (especially females) they always bring up what they just ordered, how fattening it was and how the star devoured it… makes me think that it’s for shows, and as soon as the interviewer leaves their either make themselves throw up or don’t eat for 3 days straight.

I agree did you see Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon at the Oscars, they have both lost weight and looked weird in lack of a better word? But some fat back on your bodies, healthy and fit is good, skinny is bad in my opinion. I am a woman but am seriously not jealous of most celebrities, they're wearing their bodies out and will most likely die much younger because of it and I'd personally live an extra 10 years and be a Size 10 or 12UK (6 or 8 US).

it's just not right, is it?
what annoys me is that some of these girls used to be a normal size, why on earth do they think they look better now? supposedly they're under pressure to look good, but as far as i can tell they get slated in magazines and criticised even more for being stick thin...!
the problem is also that people who are naturally slim get looked at funny like there's something wrong with them. there seems to be no middle ground, which is a bit sad.
but i agree with you, they set a very bad example, especially when they deny it, cause it reinforces girl's beliefs that these celebs are perfect (which they're obviously not)

I think that these Celebs are a very bad influence on young people. They are portraying this stick thin look as something normal when it isn't and it's can't be healthy.
All this can do is lead to more and more youngsters with eating disorders
Isn't the average real woman a size 16???

its appauling that they wernt banned form london fashion week! im a confident 22 year old female, size10 and even i feel pressured to loose weight, i dread to think the impact it has on teens growing up in todays society. i would never want to be that thin, but when they make you feel fat we all have to admit we have a problem if these are our role models.

its quite sad that some people are weak-minded enough to follow their starts into the realms size zero even if it means making themselves sick etc. i myself dont think size zero looks good. wheres the 'womanly bits'... frankly, us women shouldnt look like little boys. dont get me wrong i dont think obesity look good either but there should be a balance. its really pathetic that celebrities themselves get pressured into loking thin by management companies and personal stylists. ohh well. let them be skeletal if they wish. who gives a damn

No. I think a good size is 10/12, because it's healthy and attractive

i concur and
Victoria Beckham is a disgusting skeletor.
ever see her papparazzi pics? she always looks like she walking arounf, looking for someplace to take a sh!t. I dont think anyone can be happy being that thin, unless youre an 11 year old girl.
then the weight proximety would be accurate.
