I'm assuming you are crocheting. If so, are you following a pattern? Are you making the proper increases? Are you holding the yarn too taught (this is my daughter's problem) or too loose?

blocking would probably work. If it is too curled on the edges, use some starch.
To block: Pin the motif flat on a soft surface like a mattress. Then use the steam setting on your iron and move it across the piece about two inches above (don't actually touch it with the iron). If your piece can't tolerate heat, then use a mister. Allow it to dry and it should stay flat. If not, repeat and use a heavy spray starch.
