What if I am a dental assistant, and I want to become dental hygiene?

Am I taking the same classes that people who is starting the dental hygiene program is taking? Or I'm taking less classes because I have exprience of becoming a dental hygiene?

I was a registered dental assistant in California, If I was to go on to Hygiene school it would have only been two more years of classes. So look into the programs nearest to you and they may take into account your experience. Some hygiene programs don't teach you how to administer anesthetics, and this is so important, because you may be doing alot of "Deep cleanings" or root planing which will require the patient to be numb.

You will take exactly the same classes as everybody else in the dental hygiene program. The fact that you have been a dental assistant does not enter into the matter at all. They are two different things....and one has no relationship whatsoever to the other....either in training for them or actually doing them.
