I will be visiting Austin for the first time and I want to check out some of the great live music I keep hearing about.

Anyone know of a place I should go? I'm not a huge country fan, but I love live music no matter what genre, so any suggestions would be great. I don't much care for loud crazy frat boy-type scenes though. I've checked out sites about the music over there, but since I've never actually been there, I don't want to end up at some dive bar, ya know?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

It's great to see someone who enjoys live music!!! You did not mention when you will be in Austin or if you are looking for singer-songwriters or just cover bands.... My husband is a singer-songwriter-guitarist here in Mobile, Al. He will be doing a "House Concert" in Austin's "Hill Country" and Robert McEntee, who was with Dan Fogelberg's band for 15 years and Carole King for 8 years, will be opening for him (Donnie Mills) on April 7th. Donnie will also be playing at the Merle Haggard Birthday bash on the 6th at Threadgill's which has live music most all the time. B.B. Rovers is a great place for live music as well. As far as Donnie you can look him up on donniemills.com or myspace.com/donniemills. As far as nice house concerts go to nexusconcertseries.com. It really depends on what you like... All the MAIN music venues are 6th Street in downtown Austin. BE FOREWARNED!!!!! Once you get there you may not want to leave!!!...If you have ever heard the phrase "Keep Austin Wierd"?... It is really a cool place and almost brings you back to the 60's 70's era. Make sure you visit the "Bat Bridge"... I know you will enjoy your visit...I know we always look forward to going there!!.. Have a great time...
