when i turn on the ignition of my saxo vtr the temperature gauge on the dashboard rises to the top then falls to the bottom 3 times,and then rests at the bottom. then occasionally whilst driving it will swing wildly bewteen the two. anybody heard of this before and know how to fix it?

Either the sender is faulty of the gauge itself. Try getting a second hand gauge from a breaker. Its a lot easier to test than the sender.

i would try replacing the temp sensor
its about 14quid and easy to fit
the t.u engines are common for it
