Vampires are present in the mythology of practically every culture on Earth. The oldest vampire myths that we are aware of are the Sumerian Akhkharu and the Lilu of Babylonian mythology. These were demonic creatures that sucked life energy like a succubus. There are also vampiric creatures described in Sanskrit texts, ancient Greek mythology and in myths of the Orient. Some gods have been linked to vampirism such as Kali, Sekmet and Xipe Totec.

European vampires originated in the Balkans. The early Russian word "upir" was recorded in documents as early as 1047 CE. The belief was widespread that vampires were foul animated corpses that were created by violent death, black magic or demonic possession. Vampires were associated with plagues, failed harvests and madness. Sometimes they were nuisances, on other occasions they were feared killers who destroyed entire families. There was a massive increase in vampire belief during the 18th century. This led to some of the best documented cases of vampires, such as Arnold Paole.

In the 19th century there were a number of works of fictions based on vampires that caused public perception of them to change. Works like "The Vampyre" by John Polidori and "Dracula" by Bram Stoker changed the disgusting corpse into a compelling aristocrat. It is this idea that has led to the modern vampire.

No-one knows just how old the vampire myth is. Blood taboos and reverence of ancestors are so ancient that it is entirely possible that vampires are as old as mankind.

People assumes the Vampires are people who suck somebody's blood to feed themselves and after the person is been sucked completely or half way, then turns into vampires. This is only a movie Story made from the reality of real Vampires. The real Vampires are those who have the power to suck the energy from you and leave you weak.As you know there are wiccan people and so many religions as well. Vampiring is like another religion but it is practice by those who believe in the nature energy that is around us.

The vampire myths of Europe originated in the far East, and were transported from places like China, Tibet and India with the trade caravans along the silk route to the Mediterranean. Here they spread out along the Black Sea coast to Greece, the Balkans and of course the Carpathian mountains, including Hungary and Transylvania. Our modern concept of the vampire still retains threads, such as blood drinking, return from death, preying on humans at night, etc in common with the Eastern European myths. Read more about vampires on the website below. Sweet dreams!

it originates from Romaina with Vlad III the Impaler ,His Romanian surname Drăculea (transliterated as "Dracula" in foreign languages of the historical documents where his name is mentioned) he was a crule ruler and he was known to be very bloody with his ememys. The bitting you drinking blood comes from hollywood.
there is though said to have been a queen not sure where, but many years ago that killed young women in her village and bathed in there blood because she thought it would keep her young. She basiclly was thown off the bench when it was found what she did. Hollywood just added to those storys

from what I remember, it was Cain (from the biblical story of Cain & Abel) being cast out by God, & being a marked man (like an animal, or beast, unable to die....) I'm doing this from memory, but it's true.
Cain met a woman or beast (i guess, half & half, as Cain & Abel were children of the first people... always thought that was a plot-hole in the story) in the wilderness. They had 13 daughters, & hence why there are 13 families of vampire in the Blade mythology (each daughter started each family)
That was all from memory, but apparently, that is the Vampire Mythos. Nice question. got me thinking...

As far as i know, it started with Vladimir the impaler. He used to cut off his victims heads, and drink thier blood before impaling the heads, in the belief that he would live longer and stay youthful. It has been noted that 30 years after carrying out this procedure, he looked no different. Also, his wife used to bathe in blood, but i do not know if she actually drank it too. I thought this was all myth, but have since found out it is fact.

It comes from many years ago, there was this person don't know there name but they thought that by drinking the blood of someone younger it would keep them young, and live for ever, of course nothing like whats in the books, but they did murder quite a few before being found out
Bram stroker used this as the bases to write his book

It actually comes from people having to dig up dead bodies in ancient times.
Apparently the lips can become dark giving the impression that they have been drinking blood.
Also, the male member can become engorged (apparantly) leading to the old powers of seduction myths as well.
