OFFICE HELPER

Date: 2007-03-01, 8:55AM PST

My office is a mess... need my bills and documents organized and put in folders. Need things entered into the computer. Need boxes filled and put unto shelves (20 lbs.). Some phone work (like calling and getting current status on the account be it for money, billing, shipping).

Person I'm looking for must be organized and detailed and NOT let messiness get to you... look at it as a calling for you to make $10 an hour cash.

It sounds suspicious to me. Does this sound like a great offer?

It doesnt sound suspicious to me, but doesnt sound like the normal job either. It sounds like a guy that does work from him home, doesnt make much in his business and is just looking for a little bit of help without having to file all the normal paperwork with hiring an employee. I can almost guarentee, this is a temporary job and the guy will probably only have you work 10 or 15 hours a week and the job probably wont last very long. Maybe a month maximum but probably more likely a few days.

no it does not sound like a great offer. i'm not saying that the job isn't legit but you probably need to access the mess and determine exactly how many hours it will take to organize it. i do this type of work sometimes and people expect you to organize years worth of paperwork in just a couple of hours. so just make sure that they are willing to pay you for your time. make sure that you will be safe and that someone knows you will be there. i think the reason why they advertised to pay in cash is just to entice someone who is wanting to make some quick money

Well, you're probably not intending to make a career out of this job. I think I would at least go over and investigate. If you try it for a day the worst that can happen is you're a few dollars ahead.

There's nothing wrong with working for cash. Just keep track of your earnings and file a 1099 with the IRS. There's nothing illegal about that.

not legally legit..because the irs wont know you got paid.. meaning you dont have to pay taxes like you would.... but it does happen a lot..... its called "under the table" So these employers dont have to deal with all the paperwork...."the legal stuff"... Think of all the construction workers.. the restaurants... it happens...
