I sent away for a passport for my son in the begining of january. I still have not got it yet , does it normally take this long to get a American passport? Because i got my Australian passport in 17 days , and that was with sending to Australia and them send it back when it was done. Is there any way I can check on it as we are planing to leave on our trip in 6 weeks.

Go to this website and you can check on your passport. it will ask for information like when you applied for it, where, etc.....and you should receive an email like the next day. i just recently got mine and it took about 3 weeks. i checked on it a couple of times and it will tell you like where exactly in the process it is. Click on "checking the status of your passport"

Things are really jammed up right now, because of the change in regulations requiring Anyone flying to the Caribbean, Mexico, or Canada to have a passport now. I applied for mine and the form said I'd get it in 6-8 weeks, but the guy crossed out the 8 and wrote in 10. The website and phone lines are also not functioning correctly because of the extraordinary number of people applying. Good Luck.

usually takes 4 to 6 weeks...the website is travel.state.gov/passport it also depends what state your in. try the website and i think you can call the 1 800 number. good luck
if you need the passport you can tell them your leaving soon and you have to make an appointment so they can get you a passport faster usually with appointment then with proof of travel with date and a wait of four hours assuming you make the appointment you can get the passport same day.good luck

It could take several months - especially if there is a criminal record.

It is best to not buy international tickets until you have the passport & visa in hand..........

They say to expect six to eight weeks. It has never taken me (one for me and one for my husband) more than 5 weeks. I would see if you can track it down some how cause its getting close to eight weeks.
