Depending on the real estate agent, it would most likely be fine. Even if you signed the buyer-broker contract, no realtor wants to waste his time showing houses if he's not going to see a commission out of it. Explain to the realtor that you've become frustrated about not finding a house, and tell him or her that the timing just isn't right. Make plans to get in contact at a later date if you wish. I'm sure they'll understand.

If all you are doing is looking (maybe you have signed a buyer's contract with a realtor), then it is totally ok to just tell them "sorry, this isn't the right time" and stop looking.
I have a problem with people who have signed a contract and given money - and then decide they dont' want to buy a house. You are just playing with people's lives then (and people are affected in various ways from paying extra monthly mortgage payments to not being able to buy the house they did because they thought their house was sold).
Make your ultimate decision about buying or not before you ever put an offer in on a house.

if you do not have a contract out for buying or a contract with the realtor, then yes, you may back out.
if you have signed a purchase agreement, you will most likely lose any deposit you have made, or legal action may be taken against you. sometimes you find sellers that are reasonable and won't do either. you would really ahve to look at the contract and read the clause that explains this.
if you are in contract with a realtor, speak to them, they may just charge you for time spent, or just let it go. again, it all depends on the realty company you went with.

If you have not signed a contract to buy a house then you are just looking and can change your mind.If you signed a contract to purchase a house and have secured financing the seller can force you to buy and or can let you walk away but will be able to keep your deposit depends on how bad the seller wants to sell.Signing a contract and not performing to the contract terms is breach of contract and you will be held responable in a court of law.

heck yes, it's your money, don't spend it because you feel like you have to and not because you want to...a house is a huge decision and something you will have to live with for a long time...Don't feel pressured to buy, if your realtor is making you feel pressured, find a new realtor!
