"failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system" but my son has been playing on the same game for months !! what can I do to fix it???

Could be it somehow got deleted. If you have Windows XP then go to start and then control panel, then system and click the hardware tab and then down to device manager. ( You do not want to remove anything from here or you will run into lots of problems) Find Display adapters and if it has a yellow exclamation you need to reinstall it. In any case open this and right click the driver listed and hit properties. In properties go to driver and hit update driver. Let it run and find the driver for you.Hope this resolves the issue .
PS: If it has been deleted you may want to run a virus scan to see if you have a virus and if these measures I have given do not work it may be that either your graphic card is loose or you need a new one.
