Good question...

But, white clouds do not have any rain in them so they are lighter. They go up in the sky and more light reflects off them.

Thunder clouds are dark as they have lots of water and a larger density. They look black because they are lower and the light reflects from their top, and we see the bottom dark as the water in blocks the light go through.

Good Luck.

Rain is not necessarily clear as each drop carries with it minute specks of dust. As such the accumulation of moisture as a cloud makes the cloud more of a solid, thus making a cloud look white as light is reflected off it.

Clouds are made up of minute particles of water that scatter light in all directions, hence the whiteness (or greyness if the sun's not shining directly on them).

In actual fact, they act just the same as raindrops, except, the size of them, the number in the cloud and the jumbled arrangement destroy any coherent refraction patterns that could be formed, such as a rainbow. However, if you look at the sun through a thin layer of cloud such as cirrostratus, it is possible to see a rainbow ring around it.

Have you noticed the mess that rain leaves on a car theses days? Rain is definitely not clear anymore. I think clouds are grey.

The droplets comprising clouds are very small, about ten micrometers in diameter. This is small enough to scatter sunlight very effectively, giving a white or grey appearence.

Rain droplets are much larger, 2-5 millimeters. Light can enter the raindrop, bounce around, and leave coherently, slightly refracted. Thus they appear clear when we are close to them, and generate rainbows when they are far away.
