Yeah, I replaced my desktop with a laptop, and I have found it indispensable. Not only is more functional, I have better connectivity with it in a smaller, portable package. If you have a WiFi connection set up in your house, you can surf on the couch, at the dinner table, wherever. For that matter, you can type letters anywhere in your home for up to 4 hours depending on your battery life.

To sum up, laptops are great, and a are a great way to enhance your computing life.

It depends on your computer needs. Laptops are defintely becoming more popular. The upside to a home PC is the expansion possibilities are far greater than the possibilities of a laptop. If you want to add peripherals (dvd rom, bigger video card, more usb ports, etc.) to a home pc, it is quit simple and worry free. But with a laptop, you really are "stuck" with what you have. The only thing you can really upgrade on a laptop is memory, and drives (in some cases). But if you are OK with that and have no need for bigger use (video editing, massive gaming, graphic design) then a laptop will be great.

To me it looks as if laptops are used only by those who want to say to the world "Look, I've got a laptop", because you will NEVER tell me that anything is SO important that you need to carry a laptop with you to deal with it whilst you're away from a proper machine, be it at work or at home. They're like mobile phones - nothing more than toys, and when the question "How ever did we manage without them!" arises, the answer is simply "Wonderfully - we used ordinary phones and the mail, and none of IT got stolen and none of US got mugged for them!"

Laptops are hard to upgrade, or fix if anything goes wrong with them. Laptops are more expensive for the same performace as a desktop. Honestly, unless you need something to travel with a desktop is better.
