I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I read somewhere (on someone elses answered question) that if you drink too much milk when you are pregnant the baby will come out hating milk? or being lactose intollerant? is that true?!?!

I drink about 1 and a half gallons of milk a week, and I love cheese! and I also take a calcium supplement (along with my prenatals) ..

is my son going to come out hating milk? or being lactose intollerant?

anyone experience that? or drink a lot of milk when they were pregnant?

thanks!

No, your baby will be fine. A fetus does not ingest food that you eat but rather the nutrition from it. If you love dairy products eat and drink them. I drank allot of milk and my baby is fine. But be careful to make sure that you drink pasteurized milk and not to consume soft cheeses like brie and blue cheese. Unpasteurized products can have harmful bacteria that can penetrate the placenta.

Before i got pregnant I only drank soy milk but the minute I got pregnant practically I wanted cows milk and I'm talking whole milk too. I would go through about a gallon in 2 days and now my baby is 7 months old and i cant break the habit I go through a gallon in about 3 or 4 now. and she isn't lactose intolerant. as far as I know. Before my pregnancy I hated cows milk and now MMMMM. the whole milk is a great source of vitamin D also which will help you mood its the vitamin you get from the sunshine so drink on lady. My daughter was almost 9lbs and I say its from all the milk the calcium helped her bones alot. So unless a doctor says so keep up the drinking and CONGRATS on the baby:D

Depends on your history.

Dairy allergies (not lactose intollerance, thats a different thing) are the most common. If you or the father has a history of dairy allergies, you may want to re-think how much youre drinking.

The other thing that can happen to you is kidney stones... But, again, depends on your history. I have a history of kidney stones and i developed one while taking prenatals (which i then discontinued)

If youre drinking that much milk, make sure youre getting plenty of iron as well (not reduced iron in cereals, real iron from meat) with vitamin C (to help absorb the iron).

I really dont think thats true. Milk is very good for you, even pregnant. I had four and only one was lactose intollerant. When I was pregnant with her, I couldnt drink milk at all. It gave me severe heartburn. I have a few friends who couldnt drink milk when they were pregnant, and had intollerant babies. But never heard of drinking too much milk when pregnant.

As it affects the baby, you can't drink too much milk..You actually need extra calcium to replace what the baby is "stealing" from your nutrition.

But milk (the calcium) can cause consitpation, so in that respect you can make yourself consitpated if you have too much calcium in your diet, but there's easy fixes to that.

I don't think so, calcium is great during pregnancy. I think alot is myth, they also say that if you eat peanut butter your baby will be allergic to nuts and I have craved peanut butter and banana sandwhiches and my doctor says the baby will be fine.
I read when you are pregnant you should get like 4,000mg of calcium a day so I think you are safe...good luck

i dont think it will affect the baby in any way but the odds are YOU will become lactose intolerant! Adults dont need cows milk...if you love, fine...no biggie, but if you dont...dont drink it for the babies sake, there are other ways of getting calcium and protein.

I don’t think that it will affect the baby’s tolerance of milk.

Also, it is best for you to get as much calcium as you can.

A woman’s only opportunity to pack calcium onto her bones to prevent osteoporosis in the future is during adolescence (okay – that’s gone now) and during pregnancy.

Drink up!
