I think he put us in this situation so we can have stronger souls and build our emotional walls and resistance. To ensure we are strong enough to center the Christian heaven, he wants to strengthen our souls. (This is simply from a Christian point of view [ not that im Christian at all. ]

You know, all these "God" questions are really more closely associated with RELIGION and not so much philosophy. Are there a bunch of PC philosophers posting questions over on the Religion section which causes you religious types to come over here to philosophy and post "God" questions?
I can see, "Is there really a God?" as a philosophical question, but these questions about what God means by doing this or that - well, you should address these questions to a minister, priest, rabbi, monk, or other such religious adviser.
But let's subtract God from your question, then answer -
I do believe that a person can increase the depth of their character by involvement in challenging situations. A person may also become frustrated, confused, or withdrawn, if they are not able to deal with a situation that ends up being beyond their capacity to handle.

Yes, I think it's true, whatever or whoever god is... That doesn't mean free will doesn't exist, we make our duty the way we want but if we go the wrong way, something get us on the track again after a while, we don't even have to know we're heading somewhere or where we heading, events are there to keep us going.
We can decide anything at any moment but we can't get an influence on the final result of our lives.

No. The way u are asking is as if u think God is a person and thinks the way you think. My belief is before we come to the physical plane we (meaning yourself) know basically what type of life and challenges we are going to face. we chose lives and situations because we know that those are the life lessons that we need to master in order to be better people or vibrate at a higher spiritual level. i don't believe in heaven and i believe that whatever spiritual level that you are on when you die is where you will be at on the "other side"

I believe we are most definitely placed in situations to cause us to become more compassionate. Some of these tests make us stronger as well. So, yes, those mountains we are handed can improve your personality if you allow them to.

No. To conquer nature and pursue happiness are challenge enough. No situation is isolated or disconnected from the previous one or the one to come.

We are supposed to become more and more christlike. To become this, God must burn away the more sinful aspects of our nature. But I'm not sure He always puts us in a challenging position or allows us to put ourselves in it. Looking over my life, I can see where most of my problems were caused by myself. I think it's more like guided study.

I'd like to think so - it's very uplifting when you think that G-d wants you to gain something out of challenging situations. But I don't think it would change your personality -- maybe it would strengthen your character.

I think WE put OURSELVES in situations that are challenging, and we can choose whether our reactions to those situations improve our personalities or make them worse.

if that's te reason the higher power(s) give us troubling decisions to make, then yes i'd believe that. it makes sense, since at each corner, we learn and develop as humans, so that we can fill our potential. i don't think it's quite our personality, but i do believ thatit's a teaching moment, that makes us reevaluate our life where it is right now.
