John Proctor is a man with very high morals who unfortunately had affair with Abigail (niece of Reverend Parris) Because of the jealousy of Abigail, she decides to start the witch trials. All John needed to do was confess to the affair, but he has too much pride to ruin his name. By the time he does finally confess he is convicted of witchcraft.

Parris is not well liked in Salem. He is a very self-centered man who cares more about his own social status than helping the citizens of Salem and possibly even G-d.

Abigail Williams is the niece of Reverend Parris. While working in the home of John and Rebbecca Proctor, she has an affair with John. Eventually John casts out Abigail, this causes intense jealousy on her part. She starts the accusing people in the town of witchcraft not only to raise her own social status and gain attention but also in the hopes of getting rid of anyone she perceives to be an enemy.
