Has anyone made this drive before? I'm trying to figure out if it would be economically a bad decision to drive instead of buying two plane tickets? Also, if you've made this drive(or from the south to the Bay area), any tips at all would be great! I've never made a drive this huge before.

I drove it when I had to, I was moving across the country. It is a painfully long trip and I think you'd spend a lot of time wishing you'd flown. Just getting through texas seemed to take forever. I'd fly!

If I were you I would FLY to San Francisco and then rent a car.
Take the Pacific Coast Hwy and drive down Thru Carmel, Big Sur and Santa Barbara. You will love the scenery. If you drive from B.R. to Frisco you will spend all your time driving. It will take more than a day to get thru Texas.

I agree with Jesse. The drive is not economically wise. It'll take you several days to get there. And the motels alone will surpass the cost for two plane tickets. Save that money for San Francisco...you'll need it.

Southwest flies from New Orleans Airport to Oakland Airport. From Oakland Airport, take the shuttle bus to the BART station ($2.00). Trains depart frequently, and it'll take about 20 minutes to get to Downtown San Francisco ($3.35).

the terrific way is basically to proceed to exist I10 by way of Houston. do no longer take the loop 610 because of the fact it fairly is basically as crowded and is decrease than contruction/fix various the time. attempt to hit Houston at mid-morning or mid-afternoon and you're able to be o.k., except it incredibly is raining. evade Houston freeways if in any respect possible from approximately 6-9 am and from 4-8 pm.
