I took a pregnancy test the other day, and after the two minutes it said negative. after about 45 minutes it had a faint positive line. The directions said disregard NEGATIVE results after 10 minutes, what does that mean..... is it possible to get a positive result after the 10 minutes if not then why would the directions say disregard NEGATIVE results after 10 minutes?

Its a evaporation line. It is not a actual positive. Their is a line that is always there but cannot be seen. If you hold a unused test up to the light you can see a positive line. It is always there and only darkens in reaction to the pregnancy hormone. After 45 minutes many tests will show a faint positive line because of the anitbody strip

The simple fact is that there is always "something there" that is slightly visible-- it's simply the antibodies on the test that would turn pink in the presence of hCG. When the test becomes wet, or as it dries, or after it dries, the antibody strip may become more visible. Therefore, all tests may have them. It is not a defect; it's just how tests are made.

It says disregard negative after 10 minutes because of the chance that there will be an evaporation line....not saying that is was one or wasnt one. There are cases where women take the test, get a negative...come back hours later and its positive. Go to the doc and they are surely pregnant....soooooooo retest to be sure...in a couple of days or so. And if you want definite answers get a blood test done at the doc. Ok, hope this helps you a lot!! Good luck!

It's hard to tell....a doctor will tell you that if you see a line at all...even very faint then you are pregnant. I did a First Response home test with my second pregnancy, and the line was so faint that it didn't even meet in the middle! But it was there! I went to my local health clinic, and they tested 3 different times in a week's time before a positive test came up. They told me that the early pregnancy tests are even more sensitive than the ones that they have now. That surprised me. But the nurse reassured me when I told her that I saw a very faint positive that if I saw anything at all then I was pregnant. And that faint line is a beautiful 4 year old girl now!! The best thing you can do is get one of those early response tests (like First Response) wait a day or two and test again. Good luck!

take another test, but do not look at it after the 10 minute mark. Just because you've never seen an evaporation line before doesn't mean anything. Best of luck to you!

Pregnancy tests are the devil. I would try taking another one again. You might be preg but you may need a few more days for it to show dark on the test. You can go to walmart and buy the equate brand which is like $4 or the dollar store has a $1 test. Buy a few of the $1 ones so you can retest if needed. If you can spring for the more expensive tests, I would suggest the digital tests that spell out Preg or Not Preg
