What is the New York Academy like? What can offer me and what opportunities and gateways will a two year course with a fifth semester of shooting a feature length film give me? I ask because I am young and will have to spend about a decade of my time earning and writing scripts to get to the NYFA and need to know will it help me to become a good director and scriptwriter in Hollywood

I took the one year Producing Course at the NYFA before attending college and I am glad I spent the money and time. I learned so much from NYFA and they once had Steven Spielburg come speak to my Producer's Craft class, which was an amazing learning experience to hear one of the masters talk about his work. The NYFA will help you make important contacts, which will help you to get a job. However, be prepared to start at the bottom and realize that you may never get your dream job. When I first started college, I wanted to be a movie producer and director, but I got an internship at a TV studio while I was in LA and I fell in love with television production and I currently work at CBS. You'll be surprised how one dream can quickly turn into a completely different dream.
Before you set your heart on the NYFA, consider other alternatives that might suit you better. In New York City, some people can let the fast life get the best of them. You aren't a great student nursing a hangover from the previous night :) Many of my classmates would have been better off at a smaller school without so many distractions. If you're serious about screenwriting, check out the programs at UCLA, Emerson College in Boston, and New York University's Tisch School of Arts. They all have amazing screenwriting programs.
