Chiropractors are doctors, but they do not prescribe poisonous substances to "treat symptoms." They specifically treat "subluxation" which is what happens when joints are misaligned and the nerve conduction is impaired.

Surgeons also treat subluxation by cutting you open and moving things around. For some reason, certain people consider this "conventional" medicine.

The medical establishment used to think blood letting was "conventional" medicine too.

Chiropractic physicians do not prescribe medication, as Chiropractic is based on the body's innate ability to heal itself. Chiropractors correct vertebral subluxations, which occur when hard bones in the spine pinch nerves, resulting in pain, decreased range of motion, and often involve more areas than just the musculoskeletal system as thought by many. Chiropractic has been around for over 100 years and is recognized as a valid treatment option. Adjustments are performed to move the vertebrae back into correct alignment, and unlike medical answers (meds, surgery, etc) adjustments do not bring ill side-effects.

Doctors of Osteopathy, (DO) are similar to Chiropractors (DC) but differ as the Osteopath can prescribe medication.

no we can not prescribe medications. if a chriopractor is doing this he is doing it illegally unless he has his MD as well, but i can not see why they would want to considering that medication and medical mistakes is the #1 killer in the US, killing over 1 million people every year. i am a chiropractic student and that makes me sick to think that a chiropractor is wanting to prescibe a medication when a GOOD chiropractor would be able to take care of the problem by removing stress on the nervous system and advising the patient on nutrition and exercise.

Chiropractors can not prescribe or dispense Rx medications.

However, they frequently sell dietary supplements (vitamins) to their patients. Some of these vitamin supplements are in violation of Federal Food and Drug Administration and Federal Trade Commission regulations because the curative claims made by vitamin manufacturer cause the vitamins to be classified as unapproved new drugs.

Nope.

Thank goodness

To the student of Chiropractic medicine below...

Medical mistakes and medications are NOT the #1 killer in the United States.

I would challenge any Chiropractor to cure a disease through manipulation. Can Chiropractic relieve pain? Yes, does Chiropractic work in very limited situations, Yes. Are Chiropractors "real" doctors? Not in my opinion.

I would check with your local professional groups, there are several Chiropractic "doctors" fighting for the right to prescribe medication, even though they have no formal training in pharmocology.

Cheers
