i think that they are both really cool, but due to money and storage space, its either one or the other... which is a wiser purchase & why??

links... they are large purchases, if you dont have alot of space to put useless baby stuff...and if you are financially strapped, a hundred dollars can be used for more important things...things that are a necessity, not a luxury

I don't understand why you can't have both. You could purchase the swing first. Yes, some babies don't like them, but if yours does then you'll find it to be a lifesaver. There isn't much else for them until they can hold their head up (possibly a bouncy chair or activity mat). It can entertain them and give you an occassional break to do other things. You'll find most babies outgrow or tire of their swing right around the time a jumparoo could be used and would be handy to have. That's when you could turn around and sell your swing to buy the jumparoo. Truthfully though I think my little one is tiring of the jumparoo quite fast and am glad to have an excersaucer as well. You may want to check craiglist or kijiji online in your area for used models at a fraction of the cost (or to sell your used swing on). You could also buy a portable swing instead for much less which could give you the added benefit of being used in much the same way as a bouncy chair would. I regretted not getting one as it certainly would have been handy to be able to take my child with me from room to room while having somewhere to put them down.

Neither right now. Your baby may or may not like the swing. My niece HATES swinging. She prefers the vibrating bouncy thing. They have the Fisher Price Papasan. Wait until baby is born and take them to the store and try the swings out. The Jumperoo is for later. I think most people are talking about doorway jumpers, but the Fisher Price Jumperoo is stationary. I don't see how this is any different than an Excersaucer. If babies were being injured, these would not be on the market. I think they key, as with any baby equipment, if moderation. They should not be left in the thing for hours at a time, but 15-20 minutes here and there will not hurt them.

With a baby coming, the swing is by far the wiser purchase. The jumper can only be used once the baby is 4-6 months and only good until they start walking. The baby swing can be used the day you bring him/her home. It will be useful until your child is about 9 months old. We used our swing nearly every day. It was especially helpful when our daughter's caught a cold, because they could sleep in it, which helped drain their sinuses (because it's at an angle). The jumper you only use occassionally and for short periods of time. The swing will get far more use.

PS Blondaroo is correct, you can buy a smaller swing and it wouldn't cost nearly as much. Also, consider getting a used swing at a consignment store or off craigslist. Then you could afford both.

you can find the jumparoo 10 dollars less in target. I purchased it and it was a blessing. lol. my son jumps so much, that he wears himself out. and eventually goes to sleep. i didnt purchase the swing. i was too scared that my son would get used to it and wouldnt want anything else. but the bouncer is great exercise for the legs. my son after months of being on the bouncer is crawling, and moving. i think the jumping worked out his thighs and legs. oh, the jumparoo could be closed to put in the closet or away. and it doesnt weigh alot. and it has 4 settings. so it grows wit the baby.
definitely the jumparoo.

I found the swing to be invaluable for the first three months of my baby's life. After that we packed it away. The jumparoo became invaluable for months 6-9. You can't use the jumparoo until your baby can hold up his/her head so I guess it depends on the age of your baby. If I had to choose one I guess it would be the swing because sometimes it was the only thing that would calm my baby.

You could definately use the baby swing from day 1. You would have to wait a few months for baby to be old enough for the jumparoo.

I have 2 children a 3yr old and a 1yr old. Neither child liked the swing at all. Both children loved the jump-a-roo. I would reccomend the jump a roo because of my experience with both. Try going to yard sales or somewhere like, that might sell the swing or the jump a roo. Walmart has both and I dont think they are that expencive there.

They are really like comparing apples and oranges in my opinion. If you are about to have a newborn, a swing is a necessity while a jumperoo is not only not a necessity (I haven't had one for any of my 7 babies), it's not even usable till the kid is like 6 months old. If you already have a baby who is happy and content and doesn't "need" a swing, go for the jumper.

The Swing, my boys were lucky enough to have both, but the swing was more practical, especially with my oldest, that swing was a lifsaver during the 6 months of colic. My little guy lived in his swing, it didn't have to be moving but he preferred it to the baby seats. he would cry if you took him out! I would also look into local mothers groups or consignment shops in your area. You may be able to pick up both inexpensively. When looking at swings all you really need is one that moves, all the other bells and whistles aren't necessary.

where do you think you'll need more help - putting the baby to sleep or exercising and "containing".

The swing tends to put them to sleep. Some people swear it is the most important piece of baby equipment they own.

The jumparoo is for awake time. It exercises the baby, while entertaining them and keeping them from crawling around and possibly getting hurt. It's nice to hook up baby in the room you are in so you can share time while keeping your hands free and attention doesn't have to be so focused.
