I always send a potted tree like a dogwood, a blue sruce, or something like that. They can plant it in their yard and when they look at it in later years they can remember their loved one. People really seem to appreciate the gesture.

Well, it depends on their religion, when one of my good friends died, I wrote a letter to his mom telling her all the adventures we went through (of course this would not apply to ur friends father, but you can write some nice memories) for example, try to ask them what nice things they used to do togerther, and tell them how this always will live in their memories, and if any time they start getting nostalgic about it to read that again (to live the moment again), and also a big angel figure will help too!

Take them some food, offer to help with the thank you cards, donate some money to some organization in the deceased's memory, or just send a nice card with heartfelt sentiments and let them know you're there for them if they need anything.

You could maybe send a gift basket of fruit to the family or maybe donate some money to a charity in memory of your friend's father.

I know that when my friend died, her family didn't want to recieve flowers. I donated money to a charity that was related to her illness, in her name. That is a nice gesture and it goes to help so many others who are suffering the same illness. Thank you and good luck.

If the father was into a certain cause or hobby, donate to that cause in memory of him. Or you could make them a meal, or bring over some groceries, they probably have a lot on their minds right now and grocery shopping isn't one of them.

I always plant a tree for them in their yard,or give them a nice house plant in a nice pot. or send a plant you can have sent from a florist, something that will live.send them a nice flowering young tree to plant. It will survive being sent in the mail. as I have done this before.some nurserys will do this for you i believe.as doing this will give them something alive to remind them of the dearly departed.
