it does sound like it might be the automatic gear sensor, this happened on my brothers semi auto scicento, it starts makes funny noises as though its stuggling to get into gear, and one day u'll find it'll just stop completely and wont go, (not trying to worry you but it cant go at anytime and in any place) its best to get it checked now before it goes, as it costs about £500 a time to get the sensor replaced. it might not be that it might be that u need to top up the automatic transmition oil, if that doesnt work its definately worth getting checked out at ur ford garage! hope that helps and good luck

Have you checked the EGR valve? The car is running just fine then all of a sudden the RPMs go up and down automatically... prices vary from make and model but the average price is around $300.00... get a diagnostic check done on it from a certified mechanic. Refusing to diagnose the problem could be a costly lesson.
