Lou Reed ,Nick Cave,Jim Morrison but that depends on what you call poetry all these studied English or had/have a fascination with it. Lou Reed has won recognised awards for poetry, just because you write songs does not make you a poet, the other to a border line but I would go for Nick Cave more than Morrison.

Personally, if you ask me, anyone who writes a song is a poet. It's just eventually set to music. Jewel would classify on account of her book. But really, she was a poet before that. She wrote words that have a specific meter and rhyme. That's poetry. So in essence, any artist who has written a song is a poet in my book. It doesn't have to be good or bad, it's still what it is.
