I've seen them on Rachael's and Martha's shows, but where in New York City are they? I'd love to go in and find treasures.

Salvage yards and stores. Also, many times if you see a building being demolished (check out Shamrock demolishion in NY, for example, I think they even sell retail) stop and ask what they are doing with the fixtures. I've gotten door handles, bathroom fixtures, ballstrauds, even a wrought iron railing for next to nothing. Being in LA, they are cropping up all over the place, but they just want too much money for their finds. You'll find much better bargains in places like KY and NC at their flea markets. Even with shipping or transportation the items will be cheaper than in NYC. But, you do have one in Brooklyn on Berry street that is well known among designers. Check out the biggest garage sale in the country, great stuff, dirt cheap.

Most large cities have them, rural areas have them at flea markets or sometimes at used furniture stores or antique stores. Chicago, New York, California and all large areas have them. If you have relatives living near any large area ask them to look it up for you. Or go online.
