The question is not whether a person other than a white male can be elected president. Our government and society have deteriorated so much that the question has now become, "Can anyone good be elected for president?" I'm sure that if someone who really represented the people's best interests and didn't have more skeletons than shoes in his closet could be elected president regardless of race or sex. Unfortunately, as much we want to believe, no such person has ever run for president since JFK or FDR. Certainly none of those who are running for president will be any better than the last half dozen presidents we have had. The time has come for a hero to emerge and run for president. Unfortunately, our society has lost all its heroes when WWII and Vietnam ended. Perhaps, if the American people unite to face our inevitable decline, then maybe, just maybe, like in the Great Depression, a hero will emerge and save our country from our self-caused downfall. Let us pray that such a person will come soon. It is almost too late, but not quite. Let God shine upon us once more!

Well unfortunately it probably will not happen anytime soon. Give me a thumbs down if you want but it is true. All though racism has declined along with sexism it is still extremely present. This is especially true in the southern states and in Michigan (anyone from Mi that says there is no racism here is a liar, I live here). So until everyone is educated to know that there is no difference in a person besides their name, then there will never be anyone in the Oval Office besides some 40 something, white, arrogant, lying male. (Aside from a few scattered through history that is the jist of all of their characteristics.)

But according to some, I'm just a white female and so I must not know what I'm talking about. :P

i believe that the country, due to its backward philosophy of the delusion that white people are best for growth ( and i am caucasian although i wish there was space beside "other" on lists, etc for me to put my ethnicity ( predominantly scot and sicilian ) , isn't ready for another ethnic group to assumne what they think is a position of power. One of the saddest truths is that the Prez doesn't actually run the country.
i also belive that some day we will be ready for a woman or someone of another culture to be elected. After all, we are all leaves on the same branch. Until the mentality of the race of humankind realizes this we will continue to see seperation and strife.Have hope, dear fellow human, progress is being made, albeit slowly; and it may take more lifetimes to materialize. All you and i can do is keep working toward the goal of unity and equality

Why do people still associate being president with race or gender? I could care less if our commander in chief is man, women, light, dark or short as s long as they are intelligent. That is what seems to be missing in the oval office these days.

Call me selfish, but I vote for the person that is gonna do the most for me. That whole concept of doing for the country is false.

DUH! That 's a no brainer! Yes, any color of skin that a person is wearing to protect them self, can be President. It's only been a norm that the "light" color skin man gets in. Its stupid to think only the "light" skin man can be the leader of this country (if you are talking about America!!!)

However, up to the modern day, there has NOT been an intellectual dark skin man capable of running for this seat. To date no dark skin man/woman has fit the criteria of President of the United States.

Barack Obama, fits it to a certain degree; however I doubt if the man gets elected because of his "name", sounds too much like Islam. Bill Richardson, fits it only because he is the governor of New Mexico, where the land of the Mexican roam; knowing he is of Spanish descent.

Condi Rice is not fit to be Sec of State, but she is there because Bush likes her. That woman is a fraud and can not be trusted. John McCain scares me, even if he was a POW, that does not fit him to bear the Presidential Seal. He would have us in Iraq until hell freeze over. You ready for that?

Skin color should NOT matter, but in America it does. Stereotype to the max here in America. You are either one way or the other.. .and you better be right with the majority or you fail... that seems to be the motto.

If America would get of the "racial issues", she would be a great country to call home to many different ethnic groups. But, those of other origin come in and bring with them their old countries ways, try to turn America into the exact country they left. Still haven't figured that one out yet.

Yeah I do. Think about it...it wasn't that long ago all state governors, supreme court justices, and members of Congress where white males.

I don't think it'll be long before the person in the white house is not a white male.

yes i can. I think the two candidates for the next election will be Condeleeza Rice and Hilary Clinton. I am a black woman and I am all for uplifting black people and all but Rice will not get my vote. She is working under ther most senseless president this copuntry has ever seen and she supports his every move. It pissde me off to a whole new extent when she went shopping will her people were in new Orleans suffering.

I would like to think that our country is growing out of this type of bias, yet at this time we still think only a white male is capable of being President. This shows just how little thinking we still are in the U.S.

Your "tired of the white house being so white" I hope isn't your criteria for voting! Yes, we will have a woman and a person of color for President "IF"they have the right qualifications and agree with My view for America!
