I hear all the time that in college BB rankings do not matter...but can Tennessee mens BB get ANY AP respect ?

im a UT alum, and a huge fan. they are currently not ranked because they went on the losing streak and don't have a very good overall record. however, they just won 4 out of 5, beating 4 ranked opponents (ranked at the time, kentucky and alabama have dropped out), and with the win over florida, i will be surprised if they aren't ranked if they beat georgia this weekend.

the rankings don't even matter when the tourney starts. if they can make a run at the sec tournament championship it will drastically improve their seeding. they already have an 11 RPI ranking with the #4 strength of schedule in the country! i think if they win the sec tournament they could be a 4 or 5 seed. however, if they lose this weekend or lose in the first round of the SEC tourney, they will be a 7,8, or 9.

if they would have won those close games against vandy and ohio state......and lofton didnt get hurt causing them to lose 4 out of 5, they would be ranked in the top ten. oh well, they won some close games that could have gone either way as well.

I've noticed that tendency, too. Even when they were higher ranked in the other poll. I think they were duds for so long, then got curiously overseeded last year so people are perhaps a bit harsher on them. Give Bruce Pearl some more time to keep doing what he does...the Vols are gonna take off.

I was thinking that too, out of any team right now, they should be in the top 25. Then the next team i would put in the top 25 would be Maryland. Tenessee should be in front of Virgina and Virginia Tech. I would put them at 19.

They should. I can't think of any other team that is undefeated at home. The problem is if they're taken away from Rocky Top they'll run into trouble.
