This actually depends on the country your in, If your in the UK, your number is Quarentined on the providers system for 6 months from termination, within this time you can request a Pac number and take it to another network, outside of six months, no much chance as it goes back into general circulation and is no longer attached to your old account

Yes, you have to talk to the old and new providers and it's a little complicated but they'll tell you everything you need to know- I know this works because my grandad's done it several times on Virgin, Vodaphone, T-mobile and Orange, so just persevere and give them time

yeah you can do that u need to ring up your provider and ask them for either a PUK code or a PAC code, i cant remember which it is.

it depends on the company you are changing to. i know for sure verizon lets you do that, but most other companies do too
