Ok, picture this, a woman is in a coma due to some major trama, (she has no memory of the trauma and does not realize she is "dreaming")while in said coma, on another plane of existance, we'll call it the astral, just for simplicity sake, she meets a guy and falls for him, etc, then she wakes up, only to find the life she thought she was leading was a dream. She pines. Here's the twist, the guy she loves is also in a coma, in another place. What would be the rules of beliveability for such a story?

Excellent. Actually humans do have lives in other dimensions, ongoing. Most just don't have the skills to keep them "organized" in a manner which allows full recollection while "doing" the 3rd dimension. Thus, these other lives are just as real in their realm as is "ours" at this level.

Some thinkers speak in terms of parallel realities (universes)--basically the same concept, i think

Very enjoyable premise you've "dreamed up" :)) In any event, high believability for those with some consciousness and a reasonably creative imagination. Good luck with your continuing efforts re the scenario!! /s/ dragonwarrior :)))

I think this is a really interesting storyline. It is quite possible for this to happen because when in a coma state, studies show that there is still brain activity. I wholeheartedly believe that when a person is in a coma their spiritaul self is fully capable of living in another plane of existence. If this were to be a book, I would definitely read it!!!!

I'm not certain what you're referring to when you say believability. And I've never heard of any rules when it comes to Astral Plains. If you're writing a story and this is your theme, just keep in mind that the only thing fiction needs to be is believable. Make your own rules.

Believability low. Entertainment value? Some. Sounds similar to the movie "Just like heaven". Or this new one with Sandra Bullock "Preminition"... or with Keanu Reeves in "The Lake House". They're not exactly the same, but it's the same dead-love-reality-dreaming thing. Oh, Vanilla Sky. Hate to steal your fire, but it's been done.

Actually it's kind of sad.
But if the man dreamt exactely the same thing, then could be a chance of happiness.
