I'm a novice but have a GREAT idea for a story. How should I go about starting this novel? What things does a good fantasy/thriller book need to have? What will keep the reader interested? Should I just write as fast as I can with out stopping or write a summary then add to it? Thanks so much for your help with this thing that I happen to NOT be a Know-It-All on :)

Writing is easy, sit down it should flow, it'd likely you'll run into the dreaded "writer's block" along the way, don't fret, it happens to the best of us. When it passes keep going.

As far as for what's popular? Do a little research, take a look at the top selling fantasy books right now, and what you can do to make yours similar enough where people would want to read yours but different enough where you aren't passed off as a copycat.

Grab a notecard and write out the plot, setting(s), character(s), and any other notes you might have about the story. Then start typing it. Reread it over and over to catch any and all mistakes (reading out loud to a sibling is good) then get someone in the age group you are targeting to read it. See if theres anything that doesn't make sense or that doesn't flow. Get an English teacher to check grammer over. Then reasearch a publishing company online who sells books of your genre. Most of the websites for publishing companies have a page to tell you how to send a letter about getting ur book published. Keep trying different companies (not all at once) if your rejected.
Your English teacher would be a good person to ask for help too!
It's awesome you want to write! I'm also looking to become an author!
