No, Sokka is a Water bender. And not a good one either. That's why he uses the boomerang. He is from a Water-bending tribe and his sister, Katara, is also a Water bender.

I highly doubt that Sokka is an earthbender or any kind of bender at all. I think your information was flawed and untrustworthy.

edit* He isn't even a water bender either. He does belong to the water tribe with his sister Katara, who is the waterbender, but he himself doesn't bend anything and never will. He is more of the warrior type and uses boomerangs or swords

I don't think he is. Sokka's the only village warrior in the South Pole(That's why in the begining Sokka tried to train some other young people... And he wasn't a really good warrior at the time either... -_-').
