a computer is a machine...it does what you tell it to do...if it does stupid things you have no one but yourself to blame...

It could be caused by several things
1.- your hdd is damaged listen carefully most of the times when your PC freezes you can hear a click
2.- your RAM is damaged you can know by a blue display that appears saying that there has been an error and gives you a number
3.- A drive is not compatible with your PC, sometimes when you install new hardware certain drivers cause malfunction of the operating system.
4.- the O.S. is damaged sometimes by accident people delete files that are important to the operating system you can restore it without loosing your info.

I wouldnt blame the PC! As a repair person, I find that 90 percent of peoples PC woes are created by themselves! You also didnt post any details on exactly what happens so dont expect much help! If I were you, I would invest in a computer and internet course!
Blnd! The ONLY reason that you would need to reformat a PC is due to the infections you inadvertantly loaded with ignorance! Sounds like YOU need to go with her!

well if start crashes it i'd reload, you might be able to repair it but a full reload maybe best choice.
A repair scenario is put xp cd in reboot, tell iot at 1st screen to do install next screen says previous install found, tell it to repair, the rest is like a install but when its done (if it works) you have your stuff back and xp runs like new. If it doesnt work then do full install:
heres the blow by blow from the expert for a full re-install:
1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".
===> Accessing Motherboard BIOS
===> http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.
5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".
8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.
9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

i think of you are going to be able to nicely be projecting your frustrations onto an inanimate device here. you're attributing to it the characteristics of an agent, as in the journey that your computing device is attempting to get you, possibly for writing stuff approximately, you comprehend, evo ..... ion. should not say the interest in case my computing device activates me too. in actuality, you have presented somewhat an outstanding occasion of ways superstitions get began, and, in the event that they actually take off, substitute into finished blown religions. Is that non secular adequate for you, or could I come around and sprinkle some holy water on your device?

Computers need to be formatted occasionally. This is more often for heavily used systems or those with many things installed.
It sounds like time to wipe it clean and reinstall Windows.
